Description
The Department of Medicine, Division of Classical Hematology, and Vascular Medicine Institute at the University of Pittsburgh are seeking a basic or translational scientist at the Associate Professor with Tenure level. The successful candidate will address fundamental questions in blood flow regulation, vascular function, metabolism, and hemostasis/thrombosis, particularly as they relate to pulmonary and systemic vascular disease, hemophilia, transfusion medicine, sickle cell disease, and heart disease.
We seek candidates who excel in mechanistic research, interdisciplinary collaboration, innovative big-data approaches, and/or therapeutic development. The successful candidate will lead an independently funded research laboratory, overseeing all aspects of a dynamic research program from strategic direction to day-to-day management and regulatory compliance. The position requires mentorship and supervision of a diverse research team, including postdoctoral fellows, graduate students, and technical staff, with guidance in experimental design, scientific writing, and career development.
Qualified applicants must hold a PhD in Biology, Cellular Biology, Molecular Biology, or a related field, and must have active R01 or equivalent funding or demonstrate the ability to compete successfully for such support. Candidates for Associate Professor with tenure should have 5 or more years of experience in related scientific research, independent external research funding, a substantial record of peer-reviewed publications, significant teaching experience, and demonstrated capacity for sustained, impactful, and independent scholarly contributions and leadership.
Competitive start-up resources, academic appointment with tenure, and salary will be provided commensurate with the candidate's qualifications and experience.
